If you are interested in qualifying for an Ohio teaching license but have not yet earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, consult the Department of Teacher Education and the Department of Kinesiology and Health websites to learn more about our state-approved teacher preparation programs, which include the completion of a bachelor's degree.
If you have already earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university, you may request an evaluation of your transcripts to determine what courses are necessary to qualify for an Ohio teaching license in your selected grade range/subject area. The post-baccalaureate licensure option requires candidates to complete all requirements in our state-approved teacher preparation programs, without earning a second bachelor's degree. Transcript evaluations are available in the following areas:
To request a post-baccalaureate licensure evaluation, complete the evaluation request form and submit it via email with electronic copies of your non-WSU college/university transcripts to cheh-advisors@wright.edu.
For all other licensure or endorsement areas, please contact the faculty advisor for your program of interest.
The Alternative Educator License and Supplemental License are offered through the State Board of Education (SBoE).
Alternative Educator License: Candidates who hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with a cumulative GPA at the time of graduation may pursue the alternative licensure pathway. Detailed instructions for pursuing alternative licensure are available on the SBoE Website for Alternative Licensure.
Supplemental License: The supplemental licensure pathway allows teachers licensed in one area to become licensed in another area upon hire by their school district. Detailed instructions for pursuing supplemental licensure are available on the SBoE website for Supplemental Licensure.
During the Alternative and Supplemental Licensure pathways, candidates may need to complete additional college coursework. This is determined by the State Board of Education (SBoE). The SBoE will not pre-approve any courses, however, courses included in our traditional state-approved teacher preparation programs should be appropriate. Please consult the Department of Teacher Education and the Department of Kinesiology and Health websites to learn more about our state-approved teacher preparation programs and courses. Semesterly, course offerings can be viewed on the Registrar's website.
Current educators who need to complete coursework to renew or reactive a teaching credential should apply for admission to the university as a non-degree seeking student at the graduate level. Guidance from the State Board of Education indicates that coursework for the purpose must be 1) in your area of certification/licensure, or 2) related to classroom teaching. Semesterly, course offerings can be viewed on the Registrar's website.
Please consult the State Board of Education website for details on how many credits are needed for renewal or reactivation of license.
