About the Zeta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of NursingSigma, Zeta Phi Chapter logo

Welcome to the Zeta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Zeta Phi Chapter was chartered at Wright State University in 1983. The purposes of the society are to:

  • Recognize superior achievement
  • Recognize the development of leadership qualities
  • Foster high professional standards
  • Encourage creative work
  • Strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession

Awards and Grants

Since scholarship is the focus of Sigma Theta Tau, the Zeta Phi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau has monies available to fund research and nursing honors students’ projects. Funds are available on a competitive basis.

What it Takes to be a Sigma Nurse

Students are invited to join Sigma through one of the more than 500 chapters located at colleges and universities around the world.

Undergraduate Students:

  • Are enrolled in a bachelor’s nursing program or equivalent
  • Achieve academic excellence based on set criteria *
  • Are ranked in the highest 35 percent of their nursing class
  • Have completed one-half of the nursing curriculum
  • RN to BSN students must have completed 12 credit hours

Graduate Students:

  • Have completed one-fourth of the nursing curriculum
  • Achieve academic excellence based on set criteria *
  • Meet the expectation of academic integrity
  1. Students in graduate programs who are registered nurses, are legally recognized to practice in their country, and have a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent in any field, shall be eligible to be considered as a Nurse Leader at any point in the program.
  2. Nursing professionals not previously inducted as nursing students can join as Nurse Leaders.

* Based on a 4.0 GPA scale, undergraduates need a min. 3.0 GPA, graduates need a min. 3.5 GPA or equivalent. View a full list of achievement standards.
