National Council of State Boards Licensure Examination for Nurses

photo of a nursing studentThe School of Nursing, Kinesiology, and Health Sciences offers a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (B.S.N.). Graduates of the pre-licensure pathways are eligible to sit for the National Council of State Boards Licensing Examination (NCLEX) to become licensed as registered nurses.

A graduate may apply for initial licensure in any state. Once initial licensure has been obtained, the RN wishing to obtain licensure in another state does so by endorsement.

For more information, and for new licensure information, please visit the Ohio Board of Nursing (OBN) website

Visit the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) website to contact a Member Board of Nursing other than Ohio's.

When to Apply for Testing and Licensure

One of the best descriptions of the application and licensure process is detailed on the NCSBN website. View the NCLEX information flyer (PDF) within their Exam Publications, which includes "The Eight Steps to the NCLEX."

Applications may be filed with OBN and registration may occur with Pearson Vue during the last semester. The fees are non-refundable so a student should be sure there are no barriers to the planned graduation schedule prior to submitting applications. Once a student completes all the graduation requirements of Wright State and the School of Nursing, Kinesiology, and Health Sciences, AND meets any outstanding financial responsibilities to the university, the school will send a notification to OBN that the student has completed the program. This is done in a timely manner after graduation.

Students who will be obtaining initial licensure other than in Ohio are encouraged to review information from that state on the application process.
