Why Choose Reading K-12?
If you are a teaching professional who seeks to advance literacy knowledge and teaching skills, the reading endorsement K-12 is designed for you. Your coursework will include literacy theories, content area literacy, literacy assessments and evaluations, working with at-risk readers/writers, and serving as a literacy leader within a school setting.
Upon successful completion of the program and passing the licensure exams, the holder of an Ohio standard teaching credential may add an endorsement in Reading K-12.

The College of Health, Education, and Human Services has provided a dedicated career consultant to assist you in connecting your major to a career. The career consultant focuses on staying up to date on career trends in education, kinesiology and health, leadership, and human services. Our assigned career consultant is an extension of services offered through Wright State’s Career Services.

Admission
Admission Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Current Ohio teaching license
- Endorsements cannot be added to alternative or supplemental licenses
- 3.0 cumulative minimum undergraduate GPA OR 2.7 cumulative minimum undergraduate GPA and GRE or MAT score in the 50th percentile or better
- (Until further notice, GRE and MAT scores will not be required for those who have a cumulative GPA between 2.7 and 2.9)
- Completion of required Ohio pre-requisite “reading core” including at least 12 hours of reading/writing methods classes. Those 12 hours must include at least one separate 3 semester hour course in the teaching of phonics.
Currently licensed teachers who wish to complete endorsement requirements, but do not want to pursue a degree may be admitted as licensure-only endorsement candidates. The reading endorsement courses may be applied toward the Master’s of Education degree in Literacy. If interested in pursuing both the endorsement and the master’s degree, apply as a degree-seeking candidate.
