KNH 2630 Prior Learning Assessment

Overview

Students normally receive valid certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid by completing KNH 2630. However, many students already possess these certifications, or may wish to pursue them externally for scheduling or other reasons.

Students can receive course credit and a waiver of the KNH 2630 course requirement by completing the Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) process if they hold current, valid CPR, AED and First Aid certification from any of the following four reputable, nationally recognized organizations:

Course Content Equivalent for KNH 2630

The course content equivalent for KNH 2630 is Adult & Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. For each organization, the listed course(s) provide(s) the minimum certification to complete the PLA for KNH 2630.

American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid, CPR, & AED or Heartsaver CPR/AED and Heartsaver First Aid
National Safety Council (NSC) First Aid, CPR, & AED (adult only) and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, & AED
Health & Safety Institute (HSI) CPR, AED, & First Aid (includes adult, child, and infant)

Higher-Level CPR/AED Certifications

Occasionally, students will present higher-level CPR/AED certifications, such as Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider (HCP). In these instances, the CPR/AED portion is acceptable. However, these courses do not include First Aid, so First Aid certification must be completed separately, as indicated below.

Emergency Medical Responder Training

The highest level of training offered by some of these organizations includes emergency medical responder CPR/AED administration, including adult, child, and infant skills, and Advanced First Aid.

Initiate the PLA Process

Students should be aware that each of these organizations charges different dollar amounts for their classes, and Wright State University charges a $150 fee to process the PLA request. Students wishing to pursue this PLA process are responsible for these costs, which are not covered by their normal tuition or fee payments.
