If you are a currently licensed and certified teacher who wishes to address the special needs of K-12 students identified as having gifted educational needs, consider Wright State’s graduate level endorsement program consisting of five online courses.
Earn this endorsement and be licensed to work in Ohio in K-12 settings as a gifted intervention specialist (GIS), helping these students achieve their potential.
Your coursework will provide a theoretical background in the nature and needs of the gifted child, including affective/social needs, curriculum development, and differentiation for gifted students with educational needs.
The ideal candidates will currently be teaching in a school currently to have direct experiences with students identified as gifted, because practicum experiences will be embedded in coursework. Licensed educators not currently teaching will be placed in a school situation to complete the practicum-related assignments.
The coursework is aligned with the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Teacher Preparation Standards and adheres to the Ohio Educator Licensure Program Standards for the Gifted Intervention Specialist Endorsement. Wright State is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

If you are currently teaching, field experiences will be embedded in your courses. You will be asked to record (video) the field experience assignment, so the instructor and program director can review it. If you are not currently teaching, we will assign you to a field experience location, or other arrangements will allow you to complete your assignments. The program does not require a separate student teaching or practicum for teachers currently in a general education classroom, a gifted resource room, or inclusionary services.
