For your first semester, here are the steps required to enroll in Flight Labs so that you can fly in the Aviation Science and Technology Program:
-
Obtain FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate
Obtain and email a copy of your FAA class 1 medical certificate to aviation@wright.edu to enroll in a flight lab by:
- July 1 for the Fall Semester
- November 1 for the Spring Semester
- May 1 for the Summer Semester
If you are unable to obtain your medical certificate by the target dates, please email aviation@wright.edu with an explanation.
You can refer to the FAA medical website to locate an approved examiner. When using the online examiner search, please select "AME" from the designee type drop-down menu.
-
Determine Estimated Costs and Apply for Financial Aid
All bills including Flight Lab Fees, must be paid before the class start date. Please note that Flight Lab fees are often not covered by federal, state or institutional financial aid and may require alternate or private financing. We recommend estimating your total costs and ensuring your financial aid and any additional financing are in place by the following dates:
- July 1 for the Fall Semester
- November 1 for the Spring Semester
- May 1 for the Summer Semester
For more information on estimating costs and exploring financial aid options, visit Aviation Program Financial Considerations.
-
Schedule an Interview
To schedule an interview, email aviation@wright.edu.
-
Bring Documents for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Verification to the Aviation Program Orientation
You need to present your driver's license and official United States birth certificate with raised seal or a United States passport for TSA verification purposes.
During the Aviation Program Orientation, you will be assigned a Certified Flight Instructor. Please bring the verification documents to orientation.
-
Understand BCI and FBI Background Check Impact on Future Employment
Airlines, corporate operators and government agencies all require clean background checks including FBI fingerprinting for the Airline Transport Pilot Certificate under 49 CFR 1544. Before enrolling in the Aviation Program and paying the expenses of flight fees, you should confirm that you have none of the offenses listed in 49 CFR 1544.229 (d).
